 Story of Miraculous Dome

Its construction was completed in 1860. Its neo-classical design by Giorgio Grognet de Vasse was based on the one of the Pantheon's, located in Rome. Same as in the construction of other churches here, residents also helped not only in the funding but also in the building of it during weekends and public holidays.

On the 9th of April 1942, during a WWII aerial bombardment, a high-explosive bomb pierced through the dome. People were already gathering inside the church for the evening mass but the bomb did not explode and there were no casualties. Despite the sabotage theories due to finding sand in the bomb, most still believe that it was a miracle.

Inside the church there's the tombstone of Grognet de Vasse, who died two years after the building's completion and there is also a replica of the bomb. If you've never been there it is surely worth visiting!
